Hello COMM 305

Hello COMM 305! I am excited to be blogging for this course as I find the topic of work-life balance fascinating. My curation technique for the course has been to try to find some way to make this ePortfolio more effective. I am confident in the professional online presence of my ePortfolio. The simple lay out and color choices of my ePortfolio convey a very professional image to viewers. To help accomplish my curation, I reached out for insight from the ePortfolio Peer adviser. There were several changes that I made during the curation of my ePortfolio. I expanded the header text box on all pages and the button text boxes on the "Projects" page. These changes were made to increase the aesthetics of my ePortfolio. I also updated my resume, dates, and GPA. These changes were made to increase the accuracy of my ePortfolio by providing up-to-date information.

My work-family-school balance is unique. I am in a special military program that allows me to go to school full time. Therefore, my work is school and I only have to juggle the requirements of school and family. For this reason, my work-life balance is healthy and in equilibrium. This is expected to change upon graduation.

My work commitment will sky rocket and I will find myself working 60 to 70-hour work weeks. I will also be bringing my work home with me to do once my son has gone to bed. There will also be long periods of time where I will be completely removed from my home life due to deployments. So, I expect that there will be a struggle to ensure that my family life does not suffer any more than it will. One way that I plan to do this will be to set aside specific family time. I would like to see this happen. I would like to see that my husband and my son will have my full attention during our family time. I am hopeful but not naive to the challenges that lay before me.

I am really hoping that this course will give me tools to help navigate my coming challenges. As a leader, it will be extremely important that I have a good work-life balance. If I do not, then I will not be able to ensure that my people are making work-life balance a priority in their own lives. Having a healthy work-life balance can increase productivity. Therefore, as a leader, it is important that I and my people all have a healthy work-life balance.
